Nigra sum sed formosa: Eodiscus speciosus

Eodiscus

Eodiscus speciosus collected by C.E. Beecher from Lower Cambrian rocks of Troy, NY (near Albany).  These animals look like small, eyeless trilobites, but may actually be part of an older group of arthropods closely related to trilobites.  Image credit: Yale Peabody Museum / Curious Sengi.
